| The town of Hvide
Sande and its harbour were founded in 1931.
Over the years the harbour has expanded, and it is now one of the
largest fishing ports in Denmark. It contains a sluice controlling the water level and
salinity of Ringkøbing Fjord, as well as a navigable lock connecting the eastern and the
western parts of the harbour. The lifeboat service is equipped with the most modern
equipment, and the lock is manned 24 hours a day.
It is an efficient harbour with excellent facilities for serving the
fishing fleet. A modern ice-factory and a new 1400 m² cold storage room, built inside the
sale-room, from which all the fish is sold. This ensures the high quality of fish, which
Hvide Sande is famous for, and it has led to an extensive export of fish.
Approximately 170 fishing vessels, ranging from large steel-hull
fishing boats to fibreglass dinghies are registered in Hvide Sande.
The total value of the fish landed in 2001 was DKr 264 Mio. Dkr. |
