Windsurfing

Taking off ... Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the best known wind surfing spots in northern Europe, thanks not least to the large surfaces of shallow water, which make learning easy, fun and safe. It takes only a few hours on the water to experience the thrill of movement and speed and the excitement from pitting yourself against nature.

The quickest way to learn to surf is to join a course at one of the large surfing centres located north and south of Hvide Sande. The courses are run by experienced fully qualified instructors, all with internationally recognised certification. Many different courses are offered, but the two most important are the introductory three-hour course (1 day) and the 12-hour beginners course (4 days). The introductory course constitutes the first three hours of the beginners course. It gives you and your fellow participants the opportunity to come to terms with the equipment while an instructor is constantly at hand to offer advise and support. After the first three hours most people are already "hooked" on the sport.

Windsurfing

They may then continue straight on to the beginners’ course. This course teaches various techniques and turns while also including a theoretical part on safety at sea, navigation rules and common knots and hitches. A final test qualifies you for an international certificate valid throughout the world.

If you join a beginners course, the schools guarantee that you will learn to surf. So all we can say is, good speed and good luck, we guarantee you won’t regret it.

Waterski - Cabelpark

It really isn't all that complicated. You simply rise 5 masts and put out a cable between them.

Waterski - CabelparkThe cable rotates counter clockwise powered by an electric motor. Along the cable are up to 9 carriers from which wires will attach to pulling the waterskier or wakeboarder.

That's good for two reasons:
Well ... For one thing you don't need a boat.

A speed boat is neither cheap nor very friendly to the environment. The cable is quiet, safe and does not disturb animals, neighbours or local fishermen.

And then it's easier to learn. The cable pulls both for- and upwards making it easier to maintain the balance. Riding many people together is cool as well.

Waterski - CabelparkTo get permission to make the cable park in Hvide Sande, the authorities demanded that the park should be completely removed during winter.

Thus the cable and the masts are taken down at the end of the season. And the raft with the starting dock and the café are towed to the local shipyard.

Having to put everything on a raft was technically demanding as well as expensive. But it sure does make the place both unique and spectacular. See more at www.cablepark.dk

The Naturepath

You can take the car as most people prefer, or the bicycle. The nature path starts right here at the southern end of the isthmus offering protection from cars for both cyclists and walkers. Winding through dunes and holiday home areas the path will take you to Hvide Sande, where it stops. North of Hvide Sande, the street Troldbjergvej will take you to where the path starts again. It then continues north through the protected area surrounding the lighthouse Nr. Lyngvig Fyr and onwards to Søndervig.

Amber

If, when enjoying a stroll along the beach, you should wonder why some people are watching the ground so carefully, now and again bending down to pick up something, the answer is that they are looking for amber, the gold of the sea. How to find amber? Well, we don’t mind revealing the best way to find this most desirable souvenir. The best chance is on a quiet day or on a day with a light easterly breeze after a couple of days of strong westerly or south-westerly wind. The best time is shortly after low tide. Most amber is carried on shore with bits of seaweed, straw or wood, so look for it in clumps of seaweed or next to jetsam and flotsam on the beach. The search is not easy, and you may find that your whole harvest is merely pretty yellow stones, but you will have had the fun and the excitement all the same. And we don’t mind whispering in your ear that there are some very fine shops in the area where you can buy amber to take home.
