Welcome to
Holmsland Klit |
Holmsland Klit is known and loved by
many holidaymakers, especially for its strikingly beautiful countryside. The heath and the
sand dunes are characteristic of this isthmus situated between the North Sea and
Ringkøbing Fjord.
Weather permitting, you have 40 km. (approximately 24 miles) of beach
is at your disposal for enjoyable walks, sunbathing or swimming. Apart from the beautiful
landscape Holmsland Klit offers many sights and attractions as well as numerous shopping
possibilities. |
Hvide Sande (literally: ‘White Sands’) is
situated in the middle of Holmsland Klit, and it is the fifth largest fishing port in
Denmark. Fishing created the foundation for this town, which grew up along the canal and
locks leading into Ringkøbing Fjord, and fishing is still the main occupation here. |

The harbour is a mixture of bustling
activity and quiet charm. Around it you will find a variety of interesting shops and
restaurants as well as the museum, ‘Fiskeriets Hus – House of Fisheries, with
the impressive ‘Westcoast Aquarium’, which is always worth a visit. Apart from
this there is a chandler and indoor swimming facilities.
7 km. (approximately 4 miles) south of Hvide Sande there is another
interesting museum called Abelines Gård. It is a traditional west coast farm (built 1870)
which has won the European Nostra award for the exceptional efforts to preserve it. Here
you will get an insight in everyday life in Holmsland Klit in ‘the good old
days’.
Close by is an indoor water-park, where the entire family can frolic in
the water when the weather is unsuitable for outdoor activities. |

Since the 18th century, Søndervig has been famous for
being an attractive seaside resort. It still is, but now it offers much more. You will
find shopping facilities and interesting activities such as a ten-pin-bowling alley, a
golf course and an indoor water park. Furthermore there are excellent restaurants catering
for every taste, and an enjoyable evening may well end in a discotheque or in a pub with
live music. |

Not far from Søndervig there is a
small village called Kloster. Here you will find a chandler where you can make your own
candles.
In the Holmsland Klit area there is a large selection of holiday
cottages, hotels, camping sites and a youth hostel, all offering you ideal surroundings
for a lovely holiday in the west of Jutland. |
